We all know the famous Hunger Games Series. It reached worldwide sucess, translated to 25 languges globally. Congrats Suzanne Collins! Yet, it is not just the famous Hunger Games which is one the best Dystopian Novels. Below, I have The Top 5 Dystpoian Novels of Young Adults!
1. Divergent – Veronica Roth
This is also a really good series, focusing on the main charcter, Beatrice. In the first book, she is in search of her true meaning in life, in a society which seperates you into five different factions beased upon your personality and social relations. You then have to survive in that faction, whith those people, with your specific instructures in a post-apocolyptic Chicago.
2. Legend – Marie Lu
The Western United States, now the Republic, is now one of the wealthiest places in the world. 15 year old June, is born into a wealthy family, and is promising for the military. Day, is a boy born into the slum area of the Republic, he is the most wanted criminal in the whole Republic. Their paths are never destined to cross, well, until one day, when June’s brohter dies, and Day is the prime suspect.
3. The City of Ember – Jeanne DuPrau
Ember is basically an underground city, with no natural light, fake tube head lights, are the only sign of hope in this city. Once a kid graduates their middle school, they are told to randomly pick a job to do. This job they must do for the rest of their lives, and the whole system is kind of screwed up, because you may not get the job which you are really good at. Lina and Doon, both get the jobs which they don’t want to get, they trade, and soon their paths cross again. For a different reason, for a shared reason, that they must finnd a way out of here.
4. Scythe- Neil Shusterman
This is based in almost utopian society, notice, ‘almost’. A world where everything is perfect, no hunger, no famine, no wars, everybody is just living peacefully going about their life. Now, only scythes can kill, and they do kill, they kill a lot. In order to manitain the size of their population, they pick out people doing their everyday things. Now Citra and Rowan are chosen to be scythes, somethingwhich they both do not want to do.
5. The Giver – Lois Lowry
Jonas’s world is simply perfect. Everything is simply perfect and under control. There is no war, no hard to pick choices, everything is chosen for you. One day at the age of twelve, Jonas is picked out to be the apprentince to The Giver. There, he realizes the dark secrets behind such a utopian community. The reason for it’s exsitence is something weird, something scary, something… bad.
